HOW TO BECOME NOTARY

What must you do to become a notary? To undertake the profession of notary it is necessary to pass three steps:

obtain a master's or specialist degree in Law ;

carry out a notarial practice period of 18 months;

pass the notary public competition .

BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN LAW

To carry out the profession of notary, it is essential to follow a master's or specialist degree course in Law (LMG / 01) with an overall duration of study of 5 years. As an alternative, there is a degree in law from the old system.

THE NOTARIAL PRACTICE

The practice required to become a notary takes place in a notary 's office . To start carrying it out, you can independently identify a study, or you can contact the local Notary Council and request the designation of an office where you can carry out the practice period.

After finding the studio, you need to register with the notary practitioner register . This register is kept by the local Notary Council, a body to which the trainee must show, every two months, a certificate proving the actual performance of the notarial apprenticeship issued by the firm itself.

HOW LONG DOES THE PRACTICE FOR NOTARIES LAST?

The notarial practice has a duration of 18 months (6 months can be anticipated already during the last year of university, while one year must be carried out continuously after graduation). The apprenticeship to become a notary can be completed within a maximum of 30 months from the registration in the register of practitioners. If this deadline is exceeded, the period of practice carried out before obtaining the degree in Law is not calculated.

We remind you that for those who practice the profession of lawyer and for the employees of the judiciary, in practice for at least one year, the practice period to be carried out continuously is 8 months .

THE NOTARY COMPETITION

The path to become a notary is completed by passing the appropriate national public competition held every year by the Ministry of Justice . The competition is published in the Official Gazette , takes place in Rome and provides for the assignment of a predetermined number of notary offices . At the moment, the most recent notary competition was launched at the end of 2019 and provided for the allocation of 300 places for notaries.

To be admitted to the state examination for notaries it is necessary:

having obtained a degree in Law;

having completed the period of apprenticeship;

be under the age of 50.
